Message from the President and the Secretary General

Message from the President and the Secretary General of the World Wind Energy Association WWEA

Dear Members, Partners, and Friends of the World Wind Energy Association,

As 2025 comes to a close, we would like to sincerely thank all WWEA members and partners for their continued trust, commitment, and active engagement. This year has been marked by important achievements for the global wind sector and for WWEA as an international platform for cooperation, dialogue, and progress.

2025 has been a year of meaningful progress for WWEA and for wind energy worldwide.

Despite a challenging global context, wind power continued to strengthen its role as a cornerstone of the energy transformation, and the WWEA Half-year Report has shown unprecedented growth in the first half of 2025. Throughout the year, WWEA further reinforced its mission to promote wind energy in all regions, across all technologies, and for the benefit of people and communities.

Among the key milestones of 2025 were:

  • Strengthening global advocacy: WWEA consistently raised the voice of the wind sector in international energy and climate discussions, highlighting wind power as a proven, cost-effective, and scalable solution for climate change mitigation and energy independence.
  • Advancing community engagement and social support: Building on our long-standing work, WWEA further promoted good practices for community participation, local value creation, and fair benefit-sharing, underlining that successful wind projects are those developed with communities, not just for them.
  • Supporting emerging and developing markets: WWEA expanded its engagement in regions where wind energy is growing rapidly, contributing to knowledge exchange, capacity building, and policy dialogue tailored to local needs.
  • Strengthening the global wind network: Through participation in various events, webinars, social media activities, podcasts, publications, and partnerships, WWEA continued to serve as a trusted platform connecting industry, policymakers, researchers, and citizens across continents.
  • Broadening the perspective on wind energy: Onshore, offshore, small wind, hybrid systems, and decentralized solutions all remained integral parts of WWEA’s holistic approach to a resilient and inclusive energy system.

A central milestone of 2025 was the 22nd World Wind Energy Conference WWEC2025, held in China, with 1500 delegates from around the world. The conference once again demonstrated the global relevance of wind energy and the value of international exchange at a time when the energy transformation is under attack but must accelerate significantly.

WWEC2025 delivered several key outcomes:

  • Strong international participation and dialogue: WWEC2025 brought together policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, and civil society representatives from many regions of the world. The discussions highlighted both the impressive scale of wind energy deployment in China and the diverse challenges and opportunities faced by other markets.
  • Clear confirmation of wind energy’s strategic role: The conference underlined that wind power – onshore, offshore, and small wind – is a mature, competitive, and indispensable pillar of future energy systems, contributing simultaneously to climate protection, energy security, and economic development.
  • Focus on quality of deployment: Beyond capacity growth, WWEC2025 placed strong emphasis on grid integration, system flexibility, digitalisation, repowering, and long-term reliability of wind assets, reflecting the sector’s transition from rapid expansion to system-wide optimisation. The launch of the World Wind Energy Academy represents a significant milestone to secure highly-qualified staff across all sectors.
  • Community engagement and social acceptance: In line with WWEA’s long-standing priorities, dedicated sessions addressed community participation, local value creation, and good practice for socially responsible wind development – topics that are increasingly decisive for successful project implementation worldwide, all reflected in the WWEA Community Engagement Guidelines.
  • Strengthened international cooperation: WWEC2025 reinforced cooperation between Chinese and international stakeholders and encouraged deeper exchange between established and emerging wind markets, supporting mutual learning and technology transfer and has launched the Global Wind Power Development Dialogue, as announced in the Shantou Declaration.

In addition to WWEC2025, WWEA in 2025 further strengthened its global advocacy work, contributed to international energy and climate discussions, expanded its engagement in emerging markets, and continued to serve as a neutral and inclusive voice for the entire wind sector.

Looking ahead to 2026, the conclusions of WWEC2025 send a clear message: the global expansion of wind energy must accelerate, while at the same time becoming more integrated, more inclusive, and more sustainable. WWEA will build on the momentum of 2025 by:

  • Intensifying advocacy for ambitious and reliable wind energy policies
  • Promoting high standards for community engagement, environmental responsibility, and system integration
  • Strengthening cooperation among members, partners, and regions
  • Creating an international network of excellence for wind power education
  • Continuing to provide platforms for global exchange, with future WWECs and thematic events building on the success of the WWEC2025

Together, we will continue to work towards a future where wind energy is not only a technological solution, but a driver of economic opportunity, social progress, and environmental stewardship worldwide.

We thank you for your trust, your engagement, and your continued support. We look forward to working with you in 2026 to further advance wind energy for a sustainable and peaceful world.

Personally, we wish you, your colleagues and partners, your families and friends, all the very best for a prosperous year 2026!

With kind regards
