Innovation in the Energy Transformation:
WWEA Joins Jury of the 2026 Xiongan International Green Energy Technology Application Competition
Bonn/Xiongan, 13 June 2026 – This week, the groundbreaking competition for innovative renewable energy solutions took place in the Chinese future city of Xiongan. WWEA Secretary General Stefan Gsänger served on the award selection jury and took part in choosing the winners.
Located just outside Beijing and established only a few years ago, Xiongan was designed by the Chinese government as a showcase for a future city that integrates renewable energy technologies, environmental sustainability, high quality of life, and information technologies such as artificial intelligence.
A total of 12 finalists competed for the 2026 International Green Energy Technology Award. The participating companies covered a wide range of fields, including smart energy solutions for urban areas, new energy technologies, innovations in electric vehicles and storage, hydrogen, and artificial intelligence.

Stefan Gsänger, WWEA Secretary General:
The Xiongan competition has set a benchmark for the global transition to renewable energy. The entire world must transform its energy supply – a shift that goes hand in hand with fundamental changes not only in the energy sector but in our societies as a whole. Here in Xiongan, we are seeing some of the solutions the world urgently needs. Being a member of the jury was a truly inspiring experience. My congratulations go to this year’s awardees, especially to the winner Marine Power Systems for their innovative platform for deep-water offshore wind turbines.

Qin Haiyan, WWEA Vice President and Secretary General of the Chinese Wind Energy Association CWEA:
International collaboration has never been more critical than it is today. With this in mind, the host of the competition, the Collection of Future City of Xiongan, has invited international entities to come to China, exchange their experiences, and foster mutual learning – accelerating the global transformation to renewable energy.
