WorldREnewDay 2025

Bonn, 21 June 2025 – On the occasion of the World Renewable Energy Day 2025 WorldREnewDay, the Global 100% Renewable Energy Platform Global100RE declares:

Today is WorldREnew Day, taking place during the UN Climate Change Conference SB62 in Bonn. Mitigating climate change has reached new urgency.. While the climate emergency is more visible than ever before, and global average warming is showing signs of exceeding 1.50C, some key organizations and political bodies are still not only denying the emergency, but also trying to create new momentum for expanding fossil fuel development and use.

However, virtually all of humanity around the world is blessed with readily-available and abundant renewable energy sources, especially solar and wind, which can provide the world with all the energy supply than it would ever need, across all end-use sectors.

WorldREnewDay was launched in 2019 to celebrate realization and further potential of the benefits of renewable energy to all communities around the world. Today, the Global 100RE Platform emphasises more than ever: Renewable energy use is already showing its potential for creating a more peaceful, just, and equitable world world by building local economies, providing energy security and access for all, and mitigating environmental impacts and climate change.

The Global100RE Co-Chairs:

Dave Renné, ISES:
There are now many reputable scientific studies that show how a world where all energy is supplied completely by renewables is the lowest cost, most socially just, and cleanest option for our future.  There are clear pathways to phasing out fossil fuel use without negative impacts on the social fabric of energy-producing communities, and in fact making communities more prosperous and energy resilient.

Janet Milongo, CAN International:

This year, we reaffirm what we've always known:
➡️ Renewable energy can meet global energy needs across all sectors.
➡️ It can drive a more peaceful, just, and equitable world.
➡️ It offers a path away from climate destruction and towards community empowerment.
Let’s continue to invest in a renewable future—because the power to change our lives is already in our hands.

Maryke van Staden, ICLEI:

Local and regional governments around the world have a tremendous opportunity to explore the widescale use of local renewable energy in their territories, also for their own operations.  The local renewable energy mix at hand is under-utilized. How can we harvest this potential? We encourage all to explore available local resources that can help step up local energy and job security, looking at energy systems efficiency and community resilience in this global climate emergency.

Stefan Gsänger, WWEA Secretary General:
People all over the world could benefit tremendously from renewable energy. Those who experience these benefits are less susceptible to misinformation from the fossil fuel lobby and populists. Therefore, our main focus should be on enabling people to harness renewable energy themselves, as a basic human right.
