WWEA Small Wind defines priorities and confirms Frits Ogg and Mike Bergey as section chairs

Bonn, 9 July 2025 (WWEA) – The WWEA section for small wind turbines, WWEA Small Wind, met last week in order to discuss the global situation and challenges of small wind turbines.

Although small wind, i.e. wind turbines up to 100 kW, is technically and economically an excellent solution for electricity supply, the situation of the sectors remains challenging in many parts of the world.

While many users of small wind turbines are farmers and smaller businesses who use the electricity themselves, the sectors faces some barriers: a lack of awareness about the potential of small wind turbines, lack of government incentives, and at many places overwhelming bureaucratic regulations

Accordingly, WWEA Small Wind will address the current challenges:
* increase awareness about the potentials of small wind
* create better regulatory frameworks
* continue improving the international networking and visibility

As chairpersons of the WWEA Small Wind Section have been confirmed:
* the Dutch wind power pioneer and journalist Frits Ogg
* the US small wind entrepreneur and pioneer Mike Bergey

Mike Bergey: "We'd like to see national governments around the world seriously analyze their potential for small and medium distributed wind. Many would find, as America did, the potential to be shockingly high."
